Qualities of Leadership When Crisis Hits
In 2020, literally JUST as covid-19 was becoming something people started to grow concerned about, I was IN Israel. In fact, I was told I was on one of the last if not THE last international planes coming back into JFK that day before all US bound planes on March 14 were re-routed to re-entry covid-19 checkpoints for possible 14-day quarantine before they were released to go home. Talk about barely making it back home as the door was closing! 😰
While in Israel, I got to learn from people who have studied the rich history of their nation.
In summary, John Maxwell taught a lesson that summarized our time there, and called it:
"The 5 Qualities of Israeli Leadership."
Those 5 qualities are:
1. Courage
2. Creativity
3. Action
4. Realism
5. Perseverance
What we learned barely scratched the surface of this nation, but it got me thinking about what the world is going through presently, and how those same leadership qualities listed above are needed today!
You and I can lead just where we are by being courageous in the way we face personal hardships and the uncertainties of financial struggles, spiritual confusion, and character crisis in and around us. A leader must be creative in how we connect with people; giving them HOPE and taking action rather than freezing in indecision; keeping a healthy perspective rooted in truth rather than listening to fear and confusion, and persevering when it gets uncomfortable.
You and I can lead others toward responsible choices and to a positive outlook just where we are, by making human connection even as we are even still somewhat distanced socially and emotionally. In effect, building bridges and not walls.
We can bring good and positive news to people weighed down with bad news.
We can choose to be just what the world needs at such a time as this.
